Haunted House — CVL Performance Profile
The Haunted House features a dark, atmospheric environment. Because most of the level relies on low ambient lighting and pre-baked shadows, the overall rendering overhead is surprisingly low. However, dynamic light sources like flickering candles and seeker flashlights can cause performance stutters on older setups if they are not optimized.
CVL Platform Ratings & Benchmarks
| Platform | Rating | Target FPS | Recommended Settings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steam Deck | ✅ Stable | 45 FPS | Medium Shadows, TDP 10W |

Performance Analysis & Optimization
Steam Deck
The Haunted House runs at a stable 45 FPS.
- Optimization: Set Shadow Quality to Medium to prevent stuttering when dynamic candle lights flicker. Turn down TDP limit to 10 Watts in the quick access menu to save battery life. Check the Steam Deck Hider Tips for advanced gameplay setups.
Mac OS (Wine/CrossOver)
The level runs smoothly on Apple Silicon Macs, though some players report micro-stutters when first walking near large fireplace lighting sources.
- Optimization: Enable D3DMetal in your bottle configuration. Make sure you compile shaders in the main menu before entering matchmaking to ensure smooth performance. Refer to the Mac Player Survival Guide for details.
Low-End PCs
Thanks to the dark rooms, GPU draw counts are minimal.
- Optimization: Keep your Shadows setting on Low to reduce the GPU overhead of real-time flashlight projections.
