Preview notice: v2.0.0 is not confirmed in official Steam patch notes at the time of writing. This page tracks community beta reports and fan speculation — cross-check Steam news before treating mechanics below as guaranteed until the build ships.
The v2.0.0 update represents the largest content expansion and technical overhaul for Meccha Chameleon since its initial launch.
1. The Hider Clone System
To counter the growing efficiency of Seekers, Hiders have been given a new defensive tool: the Clone System.
- Decoy Deployment: By pressing the utility key (default: G on keyboard), a Hider can spawn a static holographic decoy. The clone instantly copies your active paint patterns, roughness, metallic settings, and locked pose.
- The Bait: If a Seeker tags the decoy clone, the clone dissipates into a puff of smoke, and the Seeker suffers a brief stun penalty. The Hider also receives a notification, alerting them that their decoy was tripped.
- Tactical Usage: Spawn a clone in an obvious hiding spot, then paint yourself to match a nearby corner. When the Seeker enters and tags the decoy, you can use their stun window to slip away and find a new hiding spot.
2. Hunter Third-Person (TPS) Camera Mode
Lobby hosts can now toggle the seeker camera perspective from first-person to third-person shoulder view.
- Wider Field of Vision: The TPS camera gives Seekers a much wider angle of view, making it harder for Hiders to rotate behind them or jump over their heads.
- Corner Peeking: Seekers can now use the camera to look around corners without physically exposing their body, altering the hide-and-seek dynamic.
- Balancing Settings: To balance the Seeker’s new camera advantage, we recommend hosts shorten the match timer or increase the Hider’s manual whistle reset buffer. Learn more about configuration settings in our Game Modes Guide.
3. Dedicated Modded Servers
The multiplayer server browser has been overhauled to officially support community-run modded lobbies.
- Server Browser Filters: Players can now filter for “Modded Only” servers. Modded servers feature custom rules, modified lobbies of up to 16 players, and unique player textures.
- Auto-Download Sync: When joining a modded server, the game will automatically subscribe to and download any custom maps or plugins required, preventing file sync disconnect errors.
- Mod Security: To ensure safe modding and prevent malware, read our guide on Workshop Mod Safety.
4. Graphics Rendering & The Character Cube
The graphics engine has been updated to support low-end systems, optimizing memory allocation.
- Character Cube Mode: In the graphics settings, enabling “Character Cube” simplifies the physics collision models and limb meshes into basic block forms. This reduces the CPU overhead required to calculate animations.
- Specular Fixes: The update addresses rendering errors where character metallic shine values would flicker on low-end GPUs.
